The Palafolls Town

 

 

 Localitation...

 

The town of Palafolls is located on the north-east border of "comarca del Maresme" with the Tordera river dividing Maresme and La Selva, as well as the province of Girona. Near Palafolls there are counties of Tordera, Santa Susanna and Malgrat de Mar. It's 1 Km from Blanes, 5 Km from Calella, 40 Km from Girona and 60 Km from Barcelona.

Car:  You can arrive using highway C-32 (old A-19) and / or the highway N-11 and after taking the road GI-682 (old B-682) as you can see on the map.
Train:  There are two possibilities: get off at Malgrat station and take a bus or get off at Blanes station and you can arrive at Palafolls with a taxi.
Bus:  there are differents lines conecting with different Catalan towns.

 

 

 

 

 History...

 

The name Palafolls was born in a castle. There are different theories about its origins but they all point to the importants of the life of the Lords and the size of the castle in this time.

 The Castle of  Palafolls  

The Castle of Palafolls

The castle of Palafolls is 158 metres high. It's one of the most important medieval castle and still stand there Palafolls. It is a large castle and divided into three sides built in differents years. The first side is dated aproximately X century and we find the old Tower of the homage, located at center of the casttle. Afterwords we can find the second side where we see the "Army square" and the Oratory built around XIII century aprox. The third and last side is founded on the most exterior place and dated of XVI century.

This church was founded in the town of Sant Genis.

The first document to be found in the church is dated 947 a.d. Romantic style. On the borders of the church are bells still not finished

 

 The Palauet

The Palauet

The pavillion of Palafolls, named "Palauet", is one of the most important works of architecture and perhaps one of the strangest in the region of Maresme. It was designed by one of the most contemporary architects recognized around the world, Arata Isozaki. 

The pavillion is totally circular and one side is covered. The design follows Japanesse architectural style, allowing viewers to see maximum brightness inside the pavillion but nothing from outside. The cover is designed with an harmonius structure using specials forms. 

The Palauet is used for everything fromsports to culturals events.
